2021 Mazda CX-9 vs. 2021 Honda Pilot: More Fun and Efficiency

The CX-9 improves in the 2021 model year with new premium models, styling updates and additional refinements to the interior. It also focuses on performance with a high-torque turbocharged engine, standard AWD, and performance technologies that enhance safety and stability, especially at higher speeds. Overall, the CX-9 is an agile family SUV that will do a little more on the road.

Here, we compare the 2021 Mazda CX-9 to the 2021 Honda Pilot.

The 2021 Mazda CX-9 has the better price range

A 3-Row SUV is an important investment and every dollar counts. Despite its stylish exterior, refined interior, better driving dynamics and more, the CX-9 has a much better model price range than the Honda Pilot.

Starting MSRP for the CX-9 is the GS level at $39,900, with features such as G-Vectoring Control Plus, 3-zone climate control, and much more. The Pilot starts at over $44,000 with the LX level, which is less equipped.

The top-level CX-9, the 100th Anniversary Edition, features luxurious amenities starting at $53,350. The Pilot's top trim will take you up to a starting price of $58,161.

The 2021 Mazda CX-9 is equipped to perform

The CX-9 offers one engine that checks all the boxes. A turbocharged 2.5-litre produces up to 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. The automatic transmission offers plenty of controls, including a drive selection switch, manual shift mode, and paddle shifters (except for the GS model). The CX-9 also achieves a highway fuel economy rating as low as 9.1 L/100 km, which beats the Pilot.

The Pilot uses a 3.5-litre six-cylinder engine that does output up to 280 horsepower, but torque capability is nearly 60 lb-ft less than the CX-9. That's a big impact on responsiveness, and it will be felt when trying to get ahead of traffic or just driving around the city.

Although both vehicles feature advanced all-wheel drive, the CX-9 includes G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC Plus). Standard throughout the lineup, it manages torque by sensing steering inputs, stabilizing various acceleration forces, and optimizing wheel loads. It also applies light braking on the outside wheels during turns to further aid in emergency movements and at higher speeds.

The CX-9 pairs driving dynamics and utility in a more affordable package. You can shop for your car online with us. Our representatives are waiting for your call and can answer all your questions.
