A few things you can check to determine if your Mazda needs new winter tires

You should never compromise on winter tires. It is essential that your winter tires provide optimal handling, last as long as possible, and provide safety and stability for you and your vehicle during the winter. Therefore, our tire experts have compiled these winter tire tips for your Mazda vehicle. Having quality winter tires will also allow you to get the most out of your Mazda’s features, such as its i-ACTIV AWD system if it has it. Whether it does or not, winter tires are the key to safety and peace of mind in winter driving.

Start by checking your winter tire’s tread depth

The first step to determining if your Mazda needs new winter tires is to check tread depth on your current tires. To do so, you can use a special tool, or you can even use a quarter by putting the nose of the caribou down into the groove. If you still see the nose of the caribou, chances are you should replace your winter tires. You can also check to see if the wear indicator is still visible on your tires. All of these elements tell you ultimately if the tread depth of your Mazda winter tires is more than 4.8 mm. This is the minimum to make sure you get through winter with tires that are effective.

On the other hand, know that there are significant differences in how winter tires with a tread depth of less than 5.0 mm perform compared to new winter tires.

If you noticed last winter that your Mazda’s winter tires were having a tough time dealing with snow and ice, you will want to replace them regardless of how deep the tread depth is. You can also think back to when you purchased your winter tires. If you did so three or four winters ago, or you have put more than 25,000 or 30,000 kilometres on your winter tire set, it might be time to check out new winter tires for your Mazda.
