2024 Mazda CX-90 Models Clinch IIHS 2023 Top Safety Pick+ Award

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has awarded its most prestigious 2023 TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating to the Mazda CX-90 Mild Hybrid Inline 6 Turbo (MHEV) and CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) models. IIHS President David Harkey lauded the superior safety standards of these SUVs and noted that Mazda has effectively met the institute's newly-strengthened criteria for 2023.

Mazda Canada Inc.'s President and CEO, David Klan, emphasized that safety remains the cornerstone of the brand's engineering approach. He acknowledged the role of IIHS in continually advancing the benchmarks for vehicular and road safety across the industry.

Earning the TOP SAFETY PICK+ designation is no small feat. Vehicles must pass a series of stringent tests including driver-side and passenger-side small overlap front, original moderate overlap front, and updated side tests. Additionally, acceptable or good standard headlights across all trims are mandatory. A front crash prevention system with advanced or superior ratings during both daytime and nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations is also required.

The CX-90 isn't the only Mazda model to receive accolades from the IIHS. The Mazda3, Mazda3 Sport, and CX-30 were also awarded the 2023 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK when equipped with optional front crash prevention technology. Similarly, the CX-5 and CX-50 secured the same award, but with standard equipment.

Overall, the CX-90's receipt of the IIHS 2023 TOP SAFETY PICK+ cements Mazda's standing as a brand synonymous with safety, meeting the robust criteria set forth by the IIHS for this year.
