2021.5 Mazda CX-5 vs. 2022 Kia Sportage: More Excitement, More Value

The Mazda CX-5 is the best choice when it comes to transporting your family in a safe, yet very powerful and stylish package. The CX-5 features a more refined interior and superior amenities compared to its rivals in the segment. The recent release of the 2021.5 enhancements steps up the CX-5’s value even more, with upgraded interior equipment and more overall standard features.

We love to see how the Mazda CX-5 lines up against the competition. Here, we compare the CX-5 to the 2022 Kia Sportage.

More Power and Enjoyment at the Wheel of the Mazda CX-5

Mazda has always focused on performance, and that includes its SUV lineup. The CX-5 offers two powertrains. The first one is a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine that generates 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. The second one is a powerful 2.5-litre four-cylinder that outputs up to 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. It is standard in the Signature trim and available as an option in the GT.

All Sportage models (except one) have a 2.4-litre four-cylinder that only reaches 181 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque, offering slightly less capability than the CX-5’s base engine. While the Sportage also includes a turbocharged engine, it only peaks at 237 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, making it much less powerful than the CX-5’s top engine option.

On top of the superior power and torque, the CX-5 also provides better driving dynamics thanks to standard G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC Plus), and available i-Activ AWD for all-weather control.

The Mazda CX-5’s cabin is more refined, safe and advanced

Like all Mazda vehicles, the CX-5 showcases superior materials and textures in its cabin. Top-of-the-line textures and materials all gather to create a more premium setting that you will find in the more budget-oriented Kia Sportage. There is also more substance on the tech side of things, with a 10.25-inch display screen that is standard on all models. It includes updated Mazda Connect software with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, and is larger than the Sportage’s 8-inch standard screen.

Every 2021.5 CX-5 is even more focused on safety. Drivers now have the full i-Activsense safety package included as standard equipment on every trim.
